The 8-year-old first grader boy is raised in a family of three children. They recently moved here from Kulikoro. The father is a public worker who works on garbage disposal in Bamako, and the mother does cleaning for the whites. They rent a room in a large ready-made house, there is no water or toilet in the house. They can usually feed the children twice. Of the parents, only the father went to school. He has a uniform, a blackboard, and chalk. He is a very talented boy, he is among the top 10 students in his class. He wants to make movies when he grows up, like the action movies he asks his neighbors to watch. Tuition is paid with great delays and difficulty.
