Astan Koné

A girl born in 2013 lives in a family of four children, where she is the eldest. The family lives separately from the extended family in a rented room. Her father is a driver, and her mother is a homemaker. They eat twice a day. Astan is described by her mother as a smart, obedient, respectful, and helpful child. Her parents both attended primary school; her father left school after the 6th grade, and her mother after the 9th grade. They have high hopes for Astan, wishing for her to attend university and become the first in the family to do so. Astan loves going to school, and her favorite subjects are reading and arithmetic. She has no school supplies or uniform. She has many friends and enjoys playing circle dance games, jumping rope, singing, and dancing. At home, Astan helps with cleaning, grocery shopping, and taking care of her younger siblings. Her favorite color is red. She loves pizza—her father once brought it home, and she has longed for it ever since. Her dream is to own a Barbie doll.
